Period Care for Remote Workers

According to Share the Dignity’s 2024 Bloody Big Survey of over 150,000 people in Australia, 56% of respondents have reported missing work due to their period.

The same survey also estimates that $9.6 billion is the cost to Australian business for missed work days due to impacts and effects of periods.

Specifically, for FIFO and remote workers:

  • 74% of rural and remote workers struggle to access period products

  • 83% of Indigenous workers face affordability barriers

WHY PERIOD CARE MATTERS FOR FIFO AND REMOTE WORKERS

The business impact of not providing period care products to the workforce:

  • Increased downtime

  • Reduced safety & hygiene

  • Low retention and low quality of life onsite and general wellbeing

  • Less inclusive worksites

WHAT YOU CAN DO TO SUPPORT REMOTE WORKERS

  • ✔ Stock free period products at all remote sites

  • ✔ Include products in crib rooms, first-aid rooms, and accommodation blocks

  • ✔ Add period products to PPE & hygiene supply lists

  • ✔ Communicate availability clearly to reduce stigma
